The International Computer Driving Licence, or ICDL, is the leading global digital literacy certification programme, with almost 10 million participants in 148 different countries.

The ICDL Programme (called ECDL throughout Europe):
- Was established by information professionals and is overseen globally by the non-profit ECDL Foundation, established to improve digital literacy around the world
- Is available in 148 countries, a truly international qualification
- Has almost 10 million participants, millions more than all other programmes combined
- Is NZQA Accredited, and can count towards NCEA in schools
- Is translated into 41 languages
- Is vendor-neutral and not tied to any particular product or technology
- Is endorsed by UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization
- In New Zealand, is endorsed and overseen by the New Zealand Computer Society (NZCS), the non-profit professional body of the ICT sector
- Is endorsed by informatics societies, governments, international organisations, academia, and the corporate sector in many countries around the world

ICDL has 7 modules covering the following:
- Module 1 - Concepts of Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
- Module 2 - Using the Computer and Managing Files
- Module 3 - Word Processing
- Module 4 - Spreadsheets
- Module 5 - Using Databases
- Module 6 - Presentation
- Module 7 - Web Browsing and Communication

Get ICDL In New Zealand
ICDL is endorsed and overseen in New Zealand by the Digital Literacy Division of NZCS, the professional body of the ICT sector. NZCS is an independent non-profit incorporated society focused on ICT and computing education and professionalism.
ICDL is available in one of the following ways:
Courseware/Training
- Individuals can access ICDL from one of the providers throughout New Zealand, or can access online training from the KiwiSkills site
- Business with less than 50 staff can access ICDL through the partner providers
- Larger businesses, organisations and government departments can choose to become an Internal Training Partner and access tools to manage training in conjunction with NZCS. See here
- NZCS members can access ICDL courseware at a discounted rate - simply log into the NZCS site and view the "KiwiSkills" tab for more info
ICDL Certification
- Individuals and small businesses can access ICDL testing through a certified ICDL Test Centre
- Larger businesses, organisations and government departments can choose to become an Internal Test Centre and conduct certification testing in conjunction with NZCS. See here
