Training Overview
This page contains information about training and certification options for digital literacy programmes.
Training vs Certification
There are two components to most good upskilling initiatives, Training and Certification.
Training is the actual learning of the material, and can often be completed at home or in the office, or by travelling to a training provider. Larger organisations may arrange for a training provider to provide services onsite or inhouse.
All good digital literacy programmes also include a testing, or certification, component. This is an assessment of the skills you've learnt and may help to identify any gaps in knowledge.
In most cases you can successfully do one without the other, although it's not highly recommended.
Types of Training
Whether you or your team just need a short touch-up course, or a comprehensive training programme, there are various training options available throughout New Zealand.
Options generally fall into one of three categories:
- Online training (either at home or in training centres)
- Instructor-led training
- Blended/Hybrid training (a combination of the two)
Different people learn in different ways, and no training option is better for everyone.
Instructor-led can either be as part of a larger group, or one-on-one. Online training generally costs a little less, however some find the latter better as it is often more focused.
KiwiSkills Offerings
KiwiSkills concentrates on the world leading programmes ICDL, e-Citizen and others. Initially the site just contains information about programmes overseen by the NZ Computer Society Inc, the independent non-profit incorporated society and professional body of the ICT sector, however will be rapidly expanding this over 2010 and beyond.
Use the options in the menu to the left to select more information about these offerings.
